# Soo Burnell

> Soo Burnell is a Scottish fine art photographer based in Edinburgh, known for calm, cinematic images in which architecture and human presence quietly share the frame. Her work — most recognisably her swimming pool and public bathhouse series — transforms familiar civic spaces into poetic, dreamlike scenes of stillness, memory and contemplation. Original limited edition prints are available to buy, and her work is shown at international art fairs and exhibitions.

Soo discovered photography at 13 in her school darkroom and studied in Edinburgh, working for over twenty years with UK magazines across fashion, portraiture, interiors and architecture. Her visual language — geometry, light, carefully constructed symmetrical compositions, soft pastel palettes — draws on Julius Shulman and Slim Aarons. The figures in her images are silent and introspective, inhabiting stories that are never fully told so that each viewer imagines their own narrative.

Recurring subjects: historic and modernist swimming pools, Japanese onsen and sento bathhouses, cinemas, museums and galleries, civic and transport architecture, water, and the sea.

Her work has been featured by The Times, The Guardian, Elle Decor, Ignant, The Spaces, Yellowtrace, Musée Magazine, Plain Magazine, Scottish Field, Hidden Scotland and Timeout, and exhibited at the Design Museum (London), the Ostend Photobiennale, and art fairs including Affordable Art Fair Battersea and Amsterdam, Art The Hague and KunstRAI Amsterdam.
